How Our Upholstery Cleaning Service Works
A Straightforward Process From Enquiry to Completion
- 11
Step 1Tell Us About Your Furniture
Contact QualGroup with your location, furniture type, number of items and main cleaning concerns.
Photographs can help explain the condition, although they cannot establish every material characteristic or hidden issue.
- 22
Step 2Discuss Suitability & Scope
We consider the available information, care instructions, visible soiling and any known restrictions.
Where the fabric or construction cannot be assessed adequately, additional information or an on-site assessment may be necessary before confirming a suitable method.
- 33
Step 3Confirm the Quote
The agreed scope should identify the furniture to be cleaned, the applicable price, any additional treatments and relevant limitations.
Do not assume that stain treatment, odour treatment or other specialist services are included unless they form part of the agreed scope.
- 44
Step 4Prepare for the Service
Where possible, clear personal items from the furniture and provide access to the relevant areas.
Tell the team about fragile items, electrical recliners, previous product applications or known material concerns.
- 55
Step 5Carry Out the Agreed Cleaning
The cleaning team follows the agreed method, taking account of the furniture's suitability, product instructions and equipment requirements.
- 66
Step 6Review the Work & Drying Requirements
The completed work is reviewed against the agreed scope. Drying guidance depends on the cleaning method, fabric, cushion construction and environmental conditions.

A Cleaning Company With a Wider Quality System Behind It
Why QualGroup? Because Your Furniture Deserves More Than a Generic Cleaning Promise.
A sofa or upholstered chair is something people use closely and regularly. In a business, it is also part of the environment you maintain for staff, customers and visitors.
You need confidence in the company attending your property—not simply a promise that the furniture will look brand new.
Healthcare-Inspired Cleaning, Established in 2014
QualGroup was founded by Vijo Madappilly Jose and Riya Cherian, healthcare professionals with more than 20 years of combined experience in nursing, infection prevention and infection control.
Their experience shaped the company’s focus on structured cleaning practices, professional training and quality.
For upholstery cleaning, this background supports a considered approach to cleaning services. It does not mean that every cleaned sofa is disinfected, sterilised or made allergen-free.
QualClean Academy: Investing in the People Behind the Service
Established in 2020, QualClean Academy provides structured professional cleaning training.
QualGroup’s wider network includes 200+ trained and vetted cleaning staff. The Academy supports the cleaning knowledge and professional development behind our service delivery.
When you book upholstery cleaning, you are engaging a business that invests in its people as well as its equipment.

Upholstery Cleaning FAQs
How much does professional upholstery cleaning cost?
QualGroup’s published starting prices are $100 + GST for residential upholstery cleaning and $56 + GST for commercial upholstery cleaning. Your final quote depends on the furniture type, number of items, fabric, condition, level of soiling and agreed cleaning scope. Tell us what needs cleaning and where your property is located so we can discuss the applicable price.
What types of upholstery does QualGroup clean?
QualGroup accepts enquiries for suitable fabric sofas, couches, lounge suites, armchairs, recliners, dining chairs, office seating and commercial reception furniture. Our team considers the furniture’s construction, fabric and care instructions before determining whether an appropriate cleaning method is available.
How does QualGroup approach upholstery cleaning differently?
QualGroup applies its proprietary High-Performance Cleaning (HPC) methodology, built around Healthy, Ethical, Hygienic, Secure and Sustainable Cleaning principles. For upholstery, this means considering material suitability, the nature of the soiling, appropriate cleaning products, equipment requirements and realistic expectations before agreeing on the service.
Can QualGroup remove old or stubborn sofa stains?
QualGroup can assess suitable upholstery stains, including certain food, drink and everyday-use marks. Results depend on the substance, stain age, fabric, previous cleaning attempts and whether the material has suffered permanent colour changes or damage. Our team should discuss likely outcomes before treatment; complete stain removal cannot be guaranteed.
Does QualGroup provide upholstery steam cleaning or hot-water extraction?
QualGroup’s wider specialist equipment inventory includes Mytee carpet cleaning equipment, a Mytee Portable Spot Extractor and a Ninja Carpet Cleaning Machine. Extraction is considered for upholstery only when the machine configuration, attachments, fabric and manufacturer instructions permit its use. Not every upholstered item is suitable for hot-water extraction or steam-based cleaning.
How long does upholstered furniture take to dry after cleaning?
Drying time depends on the fabric, cushion construction, cleaning method, moisture level, ventilation and room conditions. QualGroup’s equipment inventory includes Filta Dryer Fan and Kärcher Dryer Fan units, which may support drying where appropriate. Follow the service team’s guidance before returning the furniture to normal use.
Can QualGroup clean velvet, linen, microfibre or delicate upholstery?
QualGroup assesses upholstery cleaning enquiries according to the material, construction and available care information. Velvet, linen blends, microfibre and other textured fabrics can have different cleaning restrictions. A care label or manufacturer information helps establish suitability. Some delicate or specialist materials may require a different service or may not be suitable for the available cleaning methods.
Can upholstery cleaning remove pet urine smells and other persistent odours?
QualGroup can discuss pet-related soiling and upholstery odour concerns. Surface cleaning may help with accessible contamination, but urine or other substances can penetrate cushion fillings and underlying materials. QualGroup lists Odour Treatment as a separate specialist service; the appropriate scope depends on the source and extent of the problem. Odour removal cannot be guaranteed without assessing the circumstances.

Practical advice from Vijo Madappilly Jose, Co-Founder of QualGroup
How to Care for Your Upholstered Furniture
Good upholstery cleaning starts well before the machine is switched on. It starts with understanding the furniture: what it’s made of, what caused the mark, and how much moisture it can handle.
QualGroup was founded by healthcare professionals Vijo Madappilly Jose and Riya Cherian. Our High-Performance Cleaning (HPC) Methodology grew out of that background, with structured processes, proper training, quality checks and careful product choices. Every sofa is different, and fabrics, backings, dyes and cushion construction all need different care.
Here’s what Vijo would like every sofa owner to know.
- 1
Know your fabric before you clean it
Two sofas can look almost identical and react completely differently to water, cleaning solutions and scrubbing. The wrong method can cause colour transfer, water marks, shrinkage or other damage.
Start with the manufacturer’s care label and any fabric information you have. If it’s unclear what the material is, or what it can tolerate, don’t assume wet cleaning is safe.
This is why we assess the furniture and choose the method before any cleaning begins. Where it makes sense, we carry out a small compatibility check first. It helps us spot risks early, though we’re always upfront that it can’t rule out every possibility of damage.
- 2
Resist the urge to keep treating the same stain
It’s tempting to keep going back at a mark with whatever’s under the sink. But repeated treatments can leave residue, spread the stain or make professional treatment harder, and some products can affect dyes or fabric finishes.
For a fresh spill, blot gently (as long as the care label allows) and avoid hard rubbing. Try to note what you’ve already used, and tell your cleaner before they start. It makes a real difference.
When we look at a stain, we consider where it came from, what’s been applied before and whether the fabric is suitable for targeted pre-treatment. That means fewer guesses and less trial and error on your furniture.
- 3
More water doesn’t mean a better clean
Too much moisture can lengthen drying time and affect sensitive backings, cushion fillings and the furniture’s construction. How much moisture is right depends on the material and the method. Not every sofa suits hot-water extraction, and a wetter clean isn’t automatically a better one.
Our equipment includes Mytee carpet cleaning equipment, a Mytee Portable Spot Extractor and a Ninja Carpet Cleaning Machine. Where the fabric and attachments suit it, extraction helps lift out cleaning solution and loosened soil. Some materials need a different approach, and some may not be suitable for the services we have available. We’ll tell you honestly which applies to yours.
- 4
Be realistic about what cleaning can restore
Some marks are simply soil, and those usually respond well. Others come from permanent dye changes, wear, fading or earlier chemical treatment, and cleaning can’t undo those.
Set expectations before the work starts, especially for older stains, delicate fabrics or furniture that’s been cleaned several times already. We separate general upholstery cleaning from additional stain treatment, and if the result is uncertain, we’ll say so before we begin. That way you can decide whether professional cleaning is worth it for your piece.
- 5
Look at the whole piece, not just the stain
A dark seat cushion often comes with grubby armrests, headrests, seams and cushion edges. Cleaning one mark may not change how the whole sofa looks.
Tell us which areas bother you most, and whether the furniture has had spills, pets or heavy daily use. We’ll agree which areas and items are included so there are no surprises. Accessible areas can usually be cleaned with suitable extraction tools, while delicate sections or areas with different material restrictions may need another approach.
- 6
Drying is part of the clean
Upholstery can hold moisture in seams, padding and cushion fillings even when the surface feels dry. Sitting on it too soon can be uncomfortable and, if it stays damp, can lead to musty odours.
Please follow the drying advice we give you after the service. Drying time depends on the fabric, cushion construction, cleaning method, how much moisture was used, ventilation and room conditions. We use Filta and Kärcher dryer fans where suitable to keep air moving, but they can’t promise a set drying time, so good ventilation still matters.
The QualGroup approach
Our HPC Methodology rests on five principles:
- Healthy CleaningChoosing suitable products with the furniture’s everyday use in mind.
- Ethical CleaningBeing clear about scope, limitations and realistic results.
- Hygienic CleaningUsing appropriate practices to deal with the agreed soiling.
- Secure CleaningConsidering material compatibility, equipment suitability and risks.
- Sustainable CleaningUsing the right method and avoiding unnecessary repeat treatments.
These are backed by QualClean Academy’s professional cleaning training and QualGroup’s wider range of specialist equipment.
In the end, the right method depends on the piece in front of us. Not every fabric can be extracted, not every stain will come out, and no single machine suits every surface.
Not sure about your sofa?
Send us your furniture details, a few photos and the care label information if you have it. We’ll talk through what your upholstery needs, whether our service is a good fit and what the next steps look like, including a quote.
